Shadowverse Evolve: Reign of Bahamut - Top Cards and Decks for Each Class
George Giannoulidis - 18 September 2023
Shadowverse Evolve has garnered immense popularity as a trading card game this year, and for good reason. With just one booster set released so far, the eagerly anticipated Reign of Bahamut is scheduled to launch on September 29, 2023.
This forthcoming expansion is generating substantial excitement within the community, promising fresh playstyles for each class with the introduction of new followers, spells, amulets, and more.
In this article, we will comprehensively examine all available information about Reign of Bahamut (BP02) for Shadowverse Evolve. Furthermore, we will delve into the top three new cards for each class. Let's dive in!
What We Know So Far About Reign of Bahamut
Despite its impending release, we already have insights into all the cards that Reign of Bahamut will usher into the world of Shadowverse Evolve. For starters, the set is releasing on September 29, but you will already find it available for preorder via the Black Flame Collectibles eshop.
Regarding card rarities, this new set will feature 40 bronze cards, 28 silver cards, 28 gold cards, and 21 legendary cards. Additionally, 35 of these cards will be available in foiled versions.
Delving into special foils, the Reign of Bahamut set brings forth 21 SL (Super Legendary) cards and 7 U (Ultimate) cards. Furthermore, this expansion introduces three new leader cards: La+ Darkness for Abysscraft, Michelle, Purehearted Mindreader for Forestcraft, and Prim, Adventuring Princess for Swordcraft.
Top Cards and Decks for Each Class
Abysscraft
During the Advent of Genesis set, Abysscraft primarily offered a competitive aggro deck with Cerberus as its central card. Reign of Bahamut further enhances aggro Abysscraft with several cards that are likely to see competitive play. Cards like Trick Dullahan, Demonic Hedonist, and Mini Soul Devil exemplify how Abysscraft can go hyper-aggressive in the coming months.
However, one card in particular stands out: Veight, Vampire Noble. Costing only 2 mana, it enables you to summon a forest instantly and continue summoning this well-known token after evolving it. Additionally, Abysscraft might introduce some playable control decks with the Reign of Bahamut release.
Two intriguing cards for control decks are Underworld Watchman Khawy and Soul Dealer. These cards not only boost your leader's health but also eliminate an enemy follower. Soul Dealer, in particular, triggers Sanguine upon entering the field.
While Soul Dealer boasts impressive stats for a 4-mana card, some control decks may opt for Righteous Devil instead. This card reminded us of the Shapeshifting Mage of Dragoncraft, but it is actually more powerful. For starters, the basic version of the card comes equipped with Bane. Evolving it activates Sanguine, boosts its stats and also grants Assail, making it a formidable choice that can finish pretty much any enemy follower on the field.
Swordcraft
Similar to Abysscraft, Swordcraft initially gravitated towards aggro decks in the early days of Shadowverse Evolve. Reign of Bahamut promises to add depth to this assassin-style class, boosting midrange decks from the first set and making them even more competitive.
One standout card for Swordcraft in the upcoming set is Leonidas. Expected to feature in nearly every Swordcraft deck, Leonidas has the power to weaken opponents while significantly enhancing royal (sword) followers in the game's closing stages. The Leonidas’s Resolve amulet is a much improved version of the Royal Banner amulet. This is why Royal Banner is likely to see less play from now on.
Staple cards like Amelia Silver Paladin and Albert Levin Saber will find use in both aggro and midrange decks.
Finally, some princess decks may emerge competitively, with Gunner Maid Seria serving as a key card to draw more powerful princesses like Amelia, Aurelia, and Otohime.
Dragoncraft
Ramp Dragoncraft emerged as arguably the best control deck during the Advent of Genesis release, gaining immense popularity worldwide and performing admirably in the early Shop Qualifiers and Regionals. While the Reign of Bahamut set promises upgrades for ramp dragon, the class is expected to only maintain this playstyle until the Umamusume crossover set arrives in December.
The introduction of the Draconic Fervor spell offers an additional way to ramp, draw cards, and boost your health in the mid-game rounds. However, the card's effectiveness in competitive play remains uncertain, as ramping on round 5 might be a bit late.
Siegfried is a follower that has already made an impact in the Japanese version of the game, and Imperial Dragoon is anticipated to find its way into most dragon decks over the next few months. Its versatility allows it to clear the board or serve as a game-ending threat.
Havencraft
Control Havencraft, featuring amulets like Holy Sentinel, was the primary competitive archetype for this class during BP01. With the release of the Reign of Bahamut set, Havencraft is poised to undergo significant changes. The brand-new Aegis Control Haven is generating substantial anticipation, providing the class with a big body and a unique winning condition it has never had before.
Heavenly Aegis, the centerpiece of this deck, can be summoned through Enstatued Seraph or played normally on turn 8. This card introduces an exciting path to victory, shifting Havencraft from exhausting opponents with tigers to a more dynamic winning strategy. Cards like Guardian Sun, which saw limited play in BP01, are expected to become more relevant thanks to this combo.
Another noteworthy card for Havencraft is Kaguya. When combined with amulets like Beastcall Aria or Ellana's Prayer, Kaguya not only clears your opponent's board but also significantly strengthens yours during the mid-game. The Ephemeral Moon token and the health boost from the evolved version make Kaguya one of the standout cards in the new set.
Runecraft
During the Advent of Genesis era, Runecraft distinguished itself as the only class with two different competitive play styles: Dirt and Spellchain. With the Reign of Bahamut release, both play styles are set to receive significant improvements.
Spellchain is poised for a particularly substantial boost with the introduction of Daria, Dimensional Witch. Daria's ability to count followers for Spellchain is a game-changer, though it comes with the drawback of filling your EX area, potentially telegraphing your next moves to your opponent. Evolving Daria allows you to play a follower and a spell from your EX area essentially for free.
On the other hand, the Dirt Rune deck will also see exciting additions such as Sun Oracle Pascale, Red-hot Ritual, and Remi & Rami, Witchy Duo. All three cards are considered staples for the Dirt archetype and will likely see extensive play in the coming months.
Forestcraft
In the initial months, aggro buff Forestcraft decks dominated the local events. However, control Rose Queen decks gained popularity, especially in recent Regional tournaments where they found success, including a victory in the Rosemont Illinois Regionals.
Control Forestcraft players have reason to celebrate, as their decks are poised to become even more potent starting September 29.
The addition of staple cards like Crystalia Tia, Elf Girl Liza, and Baalt, King of the Elves, is expected to elevate control Forestcraft to an absolute S-tier deck. The playstyle won't undergo significant changes, as Forestcraft will continue to revolve around combo and pixies.
